Overview
Nonprofit Administration at Auckland Royal Academy prepares graduates to lead and manage the community organisations, charities, NGOs, and social enterprises that play a vital role in New Zealand's social fabric. The programme covers governance, fundraising, volunteer management, financial management, advocacy, programme evaluation, and legal frameworks specific to New Zealand's not-for-profit sector, producing graduates with both the management skills and the values-driven leadership approach that the sector demands.
The programme maintains strong connections with Auckland's civil society sector, with guest speakers from leading charitable trusts, social service organisations, environmental NGOs, and community foundations sharing their experience of managing mission-driven organisations in New Zealand's complex funding and regulatory environment. Placement projects with community organisations provide direct professional experience and contribute to genuine community benefit.
Career Opportunities
Nonprofit Administration graduates work as executive directors, programme managers, community development officers, fundraising managers, and policy advocates with charities, community trusts, iwi organisations, disability service providers, and social enterprise ventures. The skills developed in the programme are also valued in government social policy and public service roles that require understanding of the community sector.
Program Learning Outcomes
Apply governance, financial management, and risk management principles specific to New Zealand's charitable and not-for-profit sector, including compliance with the Charities Act, privacy legislation, and employment relations law.
Design and evaluate social programmes using logic models and outcome measurement frameworks, demonstrating the ability to report on programme impact to funders, boards, and community stakeholders.
Develop fundraising strategies, community engagement plans, and advocacy campaigns that build organisational capacity, diversify revenue streams, and advance the mission of community and not-for-profit organisations in New Zealand.
