Your Route Into a Degree — Regardless of Your Background
Not every talented student has a straightforward academic pathway. Auckland Royal Academy's Foundation and Pathway Programmes provide a supported, structured route into undergraduate and postgraduate study for students who need to build academic skills, qualify academically, or transition between qualification levels.
Pathway students who meet the progression standard gain guaranteed entry to the linked ARA degree programme — no additional external application required.
Three Pathway Tracks
Foundation Studies
One-year programme for students who have not completed secondary education to the required standard. Covers English academic skills, mathematics, critical thinking, and introductory study in your chosen subject area.
Diploma Pathway
For students who have completed secondary education but need additional academic preparation before entering a degree. One-year diploma with direct entry to Year 2 of the linked bachelor degree upon successful completion.
Postgraduate Pathway
Graduate Diploma designed for bachelor degree holders who want to enter a field different from their undergraduate study, or who need additional preparation for Masters-level work. One-year programme with Masters progression.
How Progression Works
Apply for Your Pathway Programme
The pathway admission process is straightforward. Entry requirements are lower than direct degree entry. The admissions team will advise which pathway best fits your background.
Complete Your Pathway Year
One year of full-time study building subject knowledge, academic writing, critical thinking, and research skills. Supported by ARA tutors and student services throughout.
Meet the Progression Standard
Students who achieve the required grade average (typically B or above) are guaranteed direct entry to the linked degree programme — no re-application or IELTS required.
Begin Your Degree
Join the ARA undergraduate or postgraduate programme. Your pathway credits may be recognised toward your degree, potentially reducing total study time.
Credit Recognition
Many pathway credits are recognised toward the linked ARA degree, meaning students who perform well may enter Year 2 directly, saving a full year of study time and tuition costs.
Your Background Is Not a Barrier
ARA Pathway Programmes open the door to a full degree qualification regardless of your academic starting point. Contact admissions to discuss which pathway is right for you.
